【課題】 小型化を維持しながら、有害な物質を外部に排出しない燃料電池を提供する。 【解決手段】 酸素を還元する正極と、燃料を酸化する負極と、前記正極と前記負極との間に設けられた電解質層と、メタノール水溶液からなる燃料と、前記燃料が酸化されることにより生成した二酸化炭素を排出する排出口とを備えた燃料電池において、前記燃料が酸化される過程で生じるホルムアルデヒド、蟻酸、一酸化炭素等を除去する手段として、前記中間生成物を酸化する触媒または前記中間生成物を吸着する吸着剤を、前記排出口に設け、前記負極と前記排出口との間に気液分離膜を設ける。 【選択図】 図1
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell not to exhaust toxic material outside while maintaining downsizing. SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes a positive electrode to reduce oxygen, a negative electrode to oxidize fuel, an electrolyte layer mounted between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, fuel composed of methanol aqueous solution, and an exhaust opening to exhaust carbon dioxide generated by oxidizing the fuel. As a measure to remove formaldehyde, formic acid, carbon monoxide or the like generated during the process of oxidizing the fuel, a catalyst to oxidize the intermediates or adsorbent to adsorb the intermediates is mounted in the exhaust opening.
